WGN News Celebrates Hispanic Heritage at CMSA
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, CMSA welcomed important guests to help us celebrate. WGN TV Anchor/reporter Lourdes Duarte kicked off CMSA’s Hispanic Heritage celebrations with an assembly on September 28. Duarte was so impressed with our school and students that we received a mention on that day’s 5:00 p.m. news cast. WBEZ Reporter Michael Puente impressed students with his radio gear, demonstration, and discussion on how his background has shaped his career. After Judge Gloria Chevere held court in the cafeteria and stressed the importance of making good choices, the day culminated with a Gala Night.
IMSA-West
In order to learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month, Indiana Math and Science Academy’s high school Spanish classes took a trip to Indiana University Kokomo on Thursday, October 11th for a presentation entitled: “The Spanish Language: the third most spoken language in the world.” by Senior Lecturer in Spanish J. R. Pico.
Upon their arrival at the Kelly Center, 49 IMSA students and faculty were given a short tour of the Student Success Center in the library and the art gallery.
Before the lecture began, students were delighted to be greeted by Dr. Gerry Stroman, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs who introduced them to IUK and answered their questions about admissions and programs offered. Dr. Scott Jones, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Services also took time from his busy schedule to greet the students.
At the end of the presentation, students were surprised with gifts and a visit by Ms. Tyana Lance from the Admissions office. She came to answer any questions the students might have about future enrollment at IUK.
All the students were very impressed with how much they learned in the presentation and very appreciative of the Indiana University Kokomo administration members who took time to greet and make them feel welcome at IUK.
